April 2012

It's already April!! In less than 2 months we'll be posting about our newest addition, Emily. In the meantime, we are busy turning our 'junk room' into an owl themed nursery. Maddy is excited to be a big sister, and loves to say "Emily is sleeping in mommy's belly button." From her big sister books, she also knows that "babies get bigger and bigger" and "cry when they need something", I think she understands what is coming...as much as an almost 3 year old can at least.

She is as funny as can be these days, and becoming more and more independent (thank goodness)! We were in the swimming pool at Uncle Kevin's house the other day, and it was getting cold out, so we were trying to convince her that it was time to get out. I told her to to yell to daddy (who had already snuck out and dried off) and say "I'm ready to get out" and she yelled out "I'm NOT ready to get out" and laughed because she knew she was funny! When walking around we'll ask her to hold our hand and she now replies, "I'm a big girl" implying that she is big enough to not hold our hands anymore (sniff, sniff). This is a big step for the girl who wanted to be carried everywhere.

We've successfully transitioned her from co-sleeping in our bed to sleeping in a full sized bed in her bedroom (SO THERE! to anyone who tried to condone our decision to co-sleep with her and said she'd never sleep on her own!) Bed time has become easier than I ever thought it would be (knock on wood). We start earlier these days (7-7:30) with bath (every other night), brushing teeth, putting on pjs, reading a couple books in her bed, turning off the light, and then staying with her in her bed until she falls asleep (now in only a couple minutes).

She has daily chores that she helps out around the house with: helps me make her bed in the morning, puts her dishes in the sink, and puts the soap capsule in the dishwasher and presses the buttons to start the dishwasher. She is so proud of herself when she helps out and often will clap for herself when done.

Emily is growing nicely, at our last appointment's ultrasound our midwife told us she has really long legs. Last night she was hiccuping so strongly for a few minutes that Mike was able to feel them when putting his hand on my belly. I can feel her twisting and turning around as I type this. I think her space is getting cramped in there! She has been so high up, more than Maddy ever was, and for me it is very uncomfortable and makes my heartburn worse, leading to more vomiting (yes, STILL!)...yuck!

Just some of the things I want to remember from our daily lives right now, hoping to be a better blogger!
