One Month Old

(I took her one month photo next to my old Pound Puppy, to show how big she is! Her onesie says "Bobblehead" :)

At 11:25 tonight Madeline will officially be one month old (4 weeks, 3 days)! It really has flown by, it feels like yesterday that I was so impatient for her to be born.

One month old includes:

  • lifting her head for a few seconds, or holding it up by herself when she is being held up
  • she can get on her side when placed on her back
  • coos, and makes noises
  • goes through several diapers in a day
  • only cries when needs a diaper change, is hungry, or overly tired
  • sleeps in bed with mom and dad (we tried not to). She falls asleep while nursing and wakes me a couple times in the night to nurse, and each time we both fall asleep.
  • focuses eyes on objects, follows objects with eyes
  • has just stared hitting at things, and tries to grab at them
  • smiles (I think it is intentionally)
  • loves taking baths in the bath tub
  • loves being carried in the mei tai carrier
  • will drink from a bottle
  • does not manage to suck a pacifier yet (only if held in her mouth for her)
  • fits into size 1 diapers, and 0-3 month clothes
Happy One Month Birthday Madeline Mae!

We love you!

Cats & Baby

I had to post these pictures for everyone who asks about how our cats (Lani, Lina and Lula) are with the baby. They have never made us worry about them harming her and pretty much leave her alone, sniffing every once on a while, or sharing her nap pillow.

Where's Maddy?

Who can find the baby in the photo?
Having a baby changes so many things, especially when you are a nursing mom. Before I leave the house I picture where it is that am going to to, and where I'll nurse if Maddy gets hungry. Are there chairs? Benches? Some sort of privacy?  You have to make sure your clothes allow for easy access to the "milk"  without flashing your goods to the world. So many things I never thought of before, especially now having a baby who eats so often! I am in love with my nursing cover (seen in photo), it completely covers everything, and is easy to use. It goes over your neck like an apron, and hangs like a curtain, it even has wire at the top, holding it open just enough for mom ( and no one else) to peek down at baby. This makes a great baby shower present for moms-to-be who plan to breast feed.

Father's Day Gift 2009

For Father's Day, Maddy gave her Daddy some special books about dads for him to read to her. Mike used to read to Maddy before she decided to make her appearance to the world, so nice to see him read to her now that she is here! Yes, Maddy slept through the stories :)
(Her onesie says "i heart daddy")

Father's Day 2009

Jane and Gerald hosted Father's Day for all of Maddy's family. We had a new dad and 2 new grandpa's (and 2 new uncles) to celebrate. We enjoyed BBQ in the backyard and came inside for dessert. We missed Auntie Laurel and Uncle Josh, who are resting up for Bella's appearance.

We also celebrated my parent's 40th wedding anniversary! Mike and I are so lucky to both have parents who are still married to each other, and that they live 5 minutes away from each other, makes holidays much easier for us! I was trying to figure out the secret to their marriages lasting throughout the years...very patient wives, who accept their husbands for who they are, and they do not try to change each other.

Chalk Art Festival

On Saturday, June 20th, we (Maddy, Mike and I) picked up my parents and went to the Pasadena Chalk Art Festival. This is a couple blocks of sidewalk in Pasadena covered in chalk drawings. We went pretty early, and the artists were just starting to draw. Last time we went a few years ago, we went on the second day, and were able to see the drawings almost done.

Maddy slept through the whole thing in her stroller pushed by Daddy. The grandparents treated us to lunch at Islands before we went home, and Grandma got to feed Maddy a bottle (her new favorite hobby, I think!).

It's nice to be able to get out more with the baby, so far she does really well and sleeps through our outings.
