First Hair Cut- Before & After

I finally decided it was time to cut her wild hair...well at least her bangs. She wanted to turn her head each time the scissors came near here and her hair doesn't really have a natural part where her bangs should hang from, but I did the best I could. I think she looks so cute with her freshly trimmed bangs, glad I actually did it. Mike thinks I'm weird for saving her hair, but I call it tradition, my mom saved mine!

9 Months Old

I honestly do not know where the last month has gone! Our Madeline is already 9 whole months old, wow! This update will be little more lengthy/long-winded than usual since I haven't been updating regularly lately.  

Like I said in the previous post, we've all been taking turns getting a bad cold, and all 3 of us have a cough that has decided to linger on, luckily we sound worse than we actually are.

Sadly since we moved, we will not be seeing the same pediatrician who we felt very comfortable with. We have been assigned a new pediatrician for Madeline at the hospital near us. But she did not have any openings this week, we will be seeing a different doctor and will meet our new, regular doctor at her one year appointment. I am interested in asking the same questions to the new doctors and seeing how their responses compare. I hope either of them can offer some guidance as to what to give Maddy as "milk" when she turns 1 since she appears to still have a milk allergy. Soy milk? Rice milk? Goat (eek) milk? Yogurt appears to be a big no (will explain later), so should we try cheese, eggs?

We had our first "medical emergency scare" 3 weeks ago. Early in the day on a Saturday, Maddy was sitting on the rug in our family room playing and toppled over hitting her head on the wood floor. The bang was loud enough for Mike to hear in the next room. Maddy cried a couple minutes and calmed down like normal so we weren't too concerned. After she calmed down, she nursed and took a nice nap. When she woke up, she vomited projectile baby vomit all over me. I gave her a bath, cleaned her up, and then vomited again, this time all over Daddy. She continued to vomit every few minutes for the next hour straight and became very lethargic. At this point, we were pretty sure that she was having a reaction to trying baby yogurt for the first time a few hours earlier, but were afraid the head hitting incident may not be just a coincidence. We called our hospital's advice nurse phone number and they told us to take her to urgent care right away since she had been vomiting so many times. Long story short, she stopped puking once we were there, was able to keep down breast milk, and everything with her head checked out ok. We decided not to do anything involving radiation and her little body since she was clearly back to her normal self again. Verdict= No more yogurt for Maddy! 

Two weeks ago we started a Baby Sign Language class. Our Parenting Class teacher is also a sign language interpreter and teaches a class for babies in the adult school, but it was full. One of our classmates talked Teacher Franci into doing a class for anyone interested from our parenting class at our classmates house on Saturday afternoons.  We have learned many words to practice with Maddy! We hope that by doing this, she will be able to communicate with us better and earlier and eliminate some future toddler frustration. Sign Language is the 3rd most used language in our country, after English and Spanish. 

Now, on to our regular monthly update!

9 months finds Maddy:

• 19.1 pounds and 28 1/2 inches long
• wearing 6-12 month onesies and dresses, 12 month pants and pajamas
• wearing size 3 diapers
• first hair cut! I trimmed her bangs, they were down to her mouth!
• working on tooth #2, her bottom left front tooth, leaving her very cranky recently
• not crawling yet, but has the inch worm wiggle down, she just needs to coordinate her legs and arms together
• can pull herself up to standing in her crib or pack n play, loves to stand while supported
• said "Da Da" while reaching for Daddy, first word used in context!
• Stranger Anxiety, or friends of Mommy's that she doesn't remember anxiety, sorry friends!
• Dances (wiggles body) to the music her toys make
• Goes crazy in her doorway jumper
• When on her tummy, turns her body in a complete circle
• When on her back, uses her legs to push herself backwards
• head butts against daddy's head, yes, it's weird!

San Pedro

On Sunday, February 15th, we were out running errands and got a call from Uncle Josh. The Rexon family was heading down to San Pedro to walk around and eat lunch at Ports o' Call, where all the big freight ships are. 

We ate some fresh seafood, and let the girls play together on the grass. It was a nice warm day and the fresh ocean air is just what we all needed.

My darn camera battery died while the girls were playing, they were both on their tummies, and looking like they wanted to crawl! When Auntie Laurel emails me the pictures, I'll add more...(cough, hint hint) :)

I love the picture of the girls in their strollers, they look like they are signaling for a right turn!

Pulling Up!

On January 31st, I had Madeline playing in her crib while I unpacked and tried to organize her bedroom. I looked up from the floor and saw her smiling down at me, she had pulled herself up to standing! She stayed standing long enough for me to run and get the camera. She thought this was lots of fun until she didn't know how to get down, got her chin stuck on the railing, and got upset. Clearly, we need to lower her crib before we attempt any sleep training!

Madeline's 1st Valentine's Day!

My camera battery died, and I can't seem to remember to charge it. Luckily, Grandma Judy got a couple super cute pictures of Madeline when we went over to visit on Valentine's Day. After our visit we headed out to the zoo for a quick visit, it was hot and crowded!

P.S. I have not forgotten about our dear little blog, we have been passing a cold back and forth between the 3 of us (and some Grandparents)for the past few weeks, leaving us with a needy baby and short on available hands and free time for updating.
